      Writing Elements

  1. pencil |n| an instrument for writing or drawing, typically consisting of a thin stick of graphite enclosed in a long, thin peice of wood or fixed in a thin cylindrical case.
  2. stub |n| the truncated remnant of a pencil or similar-shaped object after use.
  3. crayon/wax crayon |n| writing implement consisting of a coloured stick or composition wax used for writing and drawing.
  4. marker / maker pen |n| a pen with a thick felt tip used for highlight a part of a text.
  5. magic marker 1 |n| a thick fibre-tip pen used for writing on display boards.
  6. magic marker 2 |n| (trademark) and indelible felt-tip marker, esp. one with a wide tip.
  7. pen |n| an instrument for writing or drawing with ink, typically consisting of a metal nib or ball, or a nylon tip, fitted into a metal or plastic holder.
  8. ballpoint / ballpoint pen |n| a pen that has a small metal ball as the point of transfer of ink to paper.
  9. ink |n| a liquid used for printing, writing or drawing.


          Side Elements

  1. pencil sharpener |n| a rotary implement for sharpening the point on pencils.
  2. eraser |n| a piece of rubber or plastic used to rub out something written.
  3. rubber |n| an eraser made of rubber commonly mounted at on end of a pencil.
  4. ruler |n| measuring stick consisting of a strip of wood or metal or plastic with a straight edge that is used for drawing straight lines and measuring lengths.
  5. square |n| any artifact having a shape similar to a plane geometric figure with four equal sides and four right angles.
  6. scissors |n| an instrument used for cutting cloth and paper, consisting of two crossing blades pivoted in the middle and operated by thumb and fingers inserted in rings at each end.
  7. glue |n| any of various other strong adhesive substances.
  8. staple |n| paper fastener consisting of a short length of U-shaped wire that can fasten papers together.
  9. stapler |n| a machine that inserts staples into sheets of paper under them together.
  10. tack |n| a long stitch used to fasten fabrics together temporarily, prior to permanent sewing.
  11. thumbtack |n| a tack for attaching papers to a bulletin board or drawing board.
  12. pencil box/case |n| a bag or box to carry pens and pencils in.


          The Blackboard

  1. blackboard/whiteboard/chalboard |n| a thin broad piece of a hard material with a smooth surface formerly always black but now often white or tinted and used especially in a classroom for chalk writings and drawings that are to be made visible to a group.
  2. chalk/charky |n| a piece of calcite or a similar substance, usually in the shape of a crayon, that is used to write or draw on blackboards or other flat surfaces.
  3. blackboard eraser |n| an eraser that removes chalk marks from blackboard.
